Nurse’s Blog 16 - dinos Soar
It is just something known that “everything happens for a reason”.
I have yet to experience my first pediatric death…odd thing is that I miss it by only a few hours…they seem to pass on me right after I leave. Is this good? What does this mean?
My first taught me what it means to love and that humans are ultimately good and want to give love to others. She taught me the importance and honor my job as a pediatric palliative nurse means and has.
This time around this little guy taught me how to be strong for a family, learn to my utmost ability for the next kid that comes around whether I’m by myself or not how to cope, deal and take charge.
You are one of the most beautiful 3 1/2 year old boy I’ve met who knew exactly what he wanted, who knew what he needed, who didn’t like getting messy in paint and who even knew how gorgeous he was.
I told your parents you slept all day the day before yesterday because you knew you had to be strong for your 3 1/2 birthday party and even though you were fighting to stay just one more day you made it! You got your Mickey mouse cake, your dinosaur blanket and gifts, your cute “girlfriend” classmate even dropped off a special gift for you. Your 6 year old brother picked out a great teddy bear for you and named it after you so that he could always hug it and remember you.
There is no doubt that you affected even your oncologist because she visited you TWICE even before her flight out of town.
You’re a special kid and I’m so glad to have had you in my story.
RIP and now you can ride real dinosaurs.
